September 05, 2014 – A team of representatives from Grameen Caledonian College of Nursing (GCCN), Bangladesh and Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU), Scotland have visited Global Communication Center and Grameen Communications on September 04, 2014 in order to learn about the GramHealth Portable Health Clinic project. The team consisted of Dr Jennie Jackson (Subject Lead for Nutrition and Dietetics, School of Health and Life Sciences), Ms. Linda Brady (Senior Research Administrator, Institute for Applied Health Research, Institute for Society and Social Justice Research) and other faculty members and students of GCU.
Ms. Nazneen Sultana (Managing Director, Grameen Communications) welcomed the visiting team. Mr. Ataur Rahman (Senior Manager, GC) presented the overall activities of Grameen Communications to them. Afterwards, Dr. Kazi Rafiqul Islam Maruf (Consultant, GCC) discussed about the projects of GCC with the representatives. He also detailed about the Portable Health Clinic program to the guests. The visiting team came up with queries about the operational aspects of the model including training up the healthcare ladies and ensuring smooth delivery of the services which were answered by Dr. Maruf.
Later on, the team was headed to the office of Global Communication Center by Dr. Maruf where the Portable Health Clinic Call Center is located. There, they attended a demonstration of the Portable Health Box made by two Healthcare Assistants of PHC. Few of the team members also took up some of the health checkup tests to observe the data transfer system through BAN (Body Area Network) technology. After that, the team visited the PHC Call Center and talked with the Call Center doctor. Dr. Maruf and Mr. Partha Pratim Ghosh (Information Management Specialist, GCC) also shared the field experience of the experimentation of entire PHC system gathered throughout last three years and discussed the future challenges with the team.
